DIY Alphabet Magnets

Last week, on Tu Mañana, I made these super cute DIY Alphabet Magnets + they were such a big hit that I had to share them with you here.

I got inspired to make this tutorial thanks to my little cousin Katita. You see, when Katita was 4 my aunt asked her what she wanted for Christmas + she responded: "Alphabet magnets for the fridge". "Say what?", thought my aunt. She was a bit perplexed to say the least. She couldn't understand it, specially because she was so used to the big gigantic Santa lists the rest of us made, LOL. So Katita's simple + very unique request really touched us all that Holiday Season + we still don't forget it. And today I'm celebrating it by showing all of you how to make a home crafted version of the famous plastic Fisher Prize-like alphabet fridge magnets.

materials

For these project you'll need:

- carton paper

- pencil

- scissors

- whole punch

- exacto knife

- paint brush

- acrylic paints

- magnets

- silicon glue

- clothespins

step by step

After gathering your materials...

Step 1: With the pencil, draw the letters unto the carton. Make them a little fat for coloring later.

Step 2: Carefully cut the letters with your scissors. Use the exacto knife for precision angles + your whole punch for letters that have insides.

Step 3: With your paint brush + paints, color your letters.

Step 4: Make them extra pretty.

Step 5: Time to glue on your magnets to the back. Use clothespins to secure adhesion.

Step 6: Voila! You are now ready to beautify your fridge!

Wasn't this fun? If you're feeling it, leave a comment + share the love.

xo,

Mayi Carles

Ohmygosh, Mayi! I love this project. I have been thinking about getting the boring plastic version for my toddler but now I am totally going to DIY instead... I wonder if that really thin balsa wood would be sturdy but still cut-able? Or chip board, I have a ton of that!

Zoe: Awwww thanks girl :). The carton I used for these is from carton boxes. It was already a bit hard to cut, so be careful if going a bit thicker. I wonder if you can cut thin wood with scissors. Not sure. Let me know if you try it out so I can consider it for future projects.

Mayi ~ these are great! I have arthritis in my fingers so cutting cardboard is hard. Think I will try foamboard since much can be cut with the exacto and then my 3 year old granddaughter can paint away - something she loves to do! THANKS for this!
